Yes, it's a performance. That's why so many WWE superstars go on to make feature films.

The really, really big matches--Wrestlemania and the like--are fully scripted and rehearsed. They know what moves they'll be doing and the outcome of the match in detail.

For most of the matches--the ones where a superstar wrestles a second-tier or beginner, or the bottom-of-the-card matches--they don't script the whole thing in advance, they have an idea how long it's supposed to last and who's supposed to win. In those cases, the wrestlers communicate with each other during the match about what kind of moves they'll make next. To the audience, it looks like the wrestlers are taunting one another, but in actuality they're saying stuff like "two elbows, whip to turnbuckle".

It is a scripted performance but I would hate to call it ACTING.
