Why everytime you disassemble a connecting rod on an engine is it recommended to replace the bolts?

Most of your bolts in an engine----- especially a 4 cylinder have a manufactures 1 time usage. Because of the torque specs. A bolt which is torqued and then retorqued strains the threads on the bolts causing them to loosen or oil or antifreeze to leak up and around the bolt. This is why most internal engine bolts such as rod-mains-head bolts are 1 time usage only. If you use retorqued bolts and have an engine failure and send the engine back say to Jasper Engines and the examine and find this IT WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY!

How is it going my friend??? This is caused by Bolt Stretch why you want to replace the Rod bolts... were on a performance Motor the Rod is moving (get this any motor) at 7,000 MPH ??? Seven Thousand MPH at Idle in the cylinder bore from stop to stop, witch is from BDC to TDC ( Bottom dead centre to Top dead centre) Now If you where holding on to something for say 80,000 miles and some one took it off your hands would you think for one moment that you could do the dead twice with out dropping it ??? This is why a good Tech Mechanic will always replace the rod bolts. For under $100. bucks save an ENG or Replace a ENG Block and do the job twice and spend $1,800 more hum-mm ???? witch would you do??? In all my years as a Mechanic I never had a motor let loose and, I have been racing cars for over 28 years. And I had built many many many Eng's And I have A coffee can of old nuts and bolts lol...

A lot of times they don't get replaced, but the safe thing to do is to replace them because they can get streched or stress cracked from normal use.

because of the stresses on it. tightening a nut onto a bolt is a "friction lock".

Retorque is a strain ----they can be damaged where you cannot see it--so spend a few bucks and do it properly.
