The United States is complaining about Iran and other countries having nuclear weapons and for other countries to set sanctions against those countries which they suspect have the weapons. However, the US has many nuclear weapons itself.
The countries that have nuclear weapons are: United States, Russia, Britain, France, China, and Israel.
The United States was the ONLY country to ever use nuclear weapons against another country in a time of war. Does anyone remember the horrible and evil damage the United States caused to Hiroshima, Japan? Also, Nagasaki, Japan?
How can a country tell other countries to disarm when it has so many weapons itself?
I am so embarrassed to have this big tyrant, known as the United States, to be geographical neighbours to us here in Canada.

Lead by example United States and get rid of your weapons. Maybe other countries should gang up on it and force it to give it up or even set sanctions, eh?

Don't tell other countries to get rid of their weapons and don't invade their country if you yourself are unwilling to give up your weapons.

What should you do? Get rid of the weapons and that ape you call a president.

Downriver Dave, nice post. I understand what you are saying but I don't agree with what you wrote about the bombing of Japan. You don't kill innocent people under any circumstances, period. Throwing a bomb over an entire country is quite cowardly if you ask me.
Anyway, yeah the US is a hypocrite and it did try to take weapons away from Iran is one of the most forceful nations in trying to do so. No need to highlight the goods the the US has done. I am aware that not 100% of Americans are evil, contrary to popular belief. Heck, I even have American family. I still see the USA has a big bully if not a tyrant though. Especially with your currect admin.

Adam K - if you are referring to when Iran's President supposedly said that he wanted Israel "wiped off the map" well that quote is false. He never said that. The media misquoted him and made it seem like he wanted to somehow launch a missile at Israel. There is a great Youtube video that so clearly explains this. If you want to see it, just email me.

BMCR - you might be Canadian by citizen but you're no Canadian with a comment that silly (so there!). Just because you have a ignorant phobia against Islam, doesn't make it right for you to say that Islamic countries cannot have nuclear weapons. I'm sure Iran's government could rebuttal by arguing that unstable radical Evangelical Christian run countries shouldn't own weapons of mass destruction either. The United States is a hypocrite and they shouldn't dish it out if they can't take it too.

BMCR- I'm aware that Canadians have a vareity of different viewpoints, only a fool would disagree. Please don't bring up the CBC as if there is a conspiracy. CBC is a balanced station and reflects what majority of Canadians are feeling at the moment. Your views aren't typical which is why I called your viewpoints not Canadian.
Just because I don't subscribe to the neo-con radical Evangelical Christian theology doesn't make me anti-American. In fact, I have a American friends and family who I love. Maybe you should take a page out of your own book.
You taking me seriously or not is not my concern, I couldn't care less.

I am Canadian too, and I'm glad as anything to have Americans as neighbours. (In fact, I even married one! So there!)

When will people like you ever learn that the issue is not "oh no, we can't have anyone have nuclear weapons!" but rather, "we can't let a country that is an Islamic theocracy run by, how shall we say, unstable elements, have nuclear weapons". Saying so while possessing nuclear weapons yourself is not hypocritical. It is perfectly consistent with such a view. (You obviously disagree with such a view. But your disagreement with it does not translate into hypocrisy for those that do not share it.)

As is the case, the UN is toothless and incompetent when it comes to these sort of things. That being the case, what entity has the power and the wherewithal to handle it? Hint, its not Canada.

Update:
Sorry, but it may be a surprise to you that Canada is a democracy. That being the case, Canadians, just like any other citizens of a democracy, have a myriad of political viewpoints. I resent being told by other Canadians that the "Canadian" viewpoint is defined by anti Americanism. In other words, I don't subscribe to the "CBC view". As is the case, I'm not only a Canadian citizen but I was born here and lived here my whole life.
This also may surprise you, but America is also a democracy too. Bush and his administration is guided primarily by democratic principles and a neo-conservative ideology. Ah, you don't like the neo-con view? Well, that is your right to have such a view (see above). But please do not go around calling people and things names without a logical argument to back it up. Otherwise, some people may not actually take you seriously.

And for the record, being against a hard line Islamic theocracy is not the same as being anti Islam. You may want to ask that regime's many Muslim opponents about that distinction as they can probably explain it a lot better than I can.

It would certainly be a good thing if the world could ever get to a point where no country had the need for nuclear weapons. However, at this time what's important is making sure that rogue regimes don't get nuclear weapons rather than having US, Britain, etc. give up their nuclear weapons.

No, not everything the U.S. has done has been perfect. No country has been 100 percent perfect in its entire history. However, the U.S., Britain, Israel, France, etc. aren't calling for the destruction of a country, like the president of Iran did.

First let me start by saying that there was nothing evil about launching the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Was it horrific? Yes. However, the Japanese attacked the United States! They forced the Americans into the war...not the other way around. You have to understand the U.S., for the sake of the entire Pacific Rim, was not going to allow the war to end without the unconditional surrender of the Japanese. You want to know about evil...read what the Japanese did in WWII to countries they occupied.

The U.S. had two options for ending the war...drop the bomb or invade. The men and boys that would have had to launch the invasion of Japan were the same Americans (and Canadians) that fought a long and bloody war in Europe. The invasion of Japan would have killed more people then the atomic bombs. If you want to deny that fact read about what happened in Okinawa. I'm sick and tired of the U.S. being blamed for WWII...a war we didn't start and were dragged into.

FOR YOUR QUESTION:
Yes the Americans are hypocritical about the bomb (as are the British, French, Russians, Chinese, Israelis, Pakistanis, and Indians). Each nation is in an inclusive club that they do want others to join. We are also hypocritical about land mines and chemical weapons.

That being said....we are not in any way tyrants. We should have never been dragged into the war in Iraq. It was a mistake from the beginning and I personally believe that there should be punishments for our 'leaders' that led us to this war. (By the way...we have clean hands when it comes to Afghanistan because they allowed those that launched the 9/11 attacks to operate freely in their nation and refused to hand them over for justice...this was an act of war and nearly every nation in the world was behind us).

But you have to understand that no other nation in the world gives as much money yearly to charity. No other nation in the world sends their military to help those that need it (Somalia anyone? How about the Balkans?) No other nation responds as quickly to natural disasters as the U.S. No other nation in the world militarily protects its friends and neighbors like the U.S. What do you think would happen if a foreign nation attacked Canada, Great Britian or Australia?

The U.S. has its problems and we need to clean house in our government soon...but we are not evil tyrants or dictators. Do we have our problems? Yes. But most Americans are good hard working people that want to do the right thing. Like most Canadians, Iraqis, Japanese, Chinese, Brits, etc.

BY THE WAY...THE BRITISH AND THE FRENCH ARE LEADING THE EFFORT TO GET THE IRANIANS TO DISARM. NOT THE AMERICANS. REMEMBER WHEN THE BRITISH MOVED THEIR NAVY INTO IRANIAN WATERS...IT WAS TO SHOW THE IRANIANS THAT THEY WERE SERIOUS (BACKFIRED A BIT).

EDIT: Again look at Okinawa...more innocents did during that invasion then soldiers fighting. It would have been blood bath for not only the military, but also the civilians.

One more thing....any nation that gives birth to Celine Dion is considered evil in my book.

EDIT AGAIN: I just reread your note to me...and I have to admit that this current administration has sapped the good name of the American people. I can understand your anger at the U.S. right now. But just now...the people aren't evil, even if our current leaders may be misguided.
