I have to agree with you on this one. People can spout, "people kill people, not guns kill people." True as hell. BUT, most homocides are committed by assailants who know the victim...most shootings are spur of the moment rages that, were there no gun, no murder would have happened. In fact, a full 90% of all murder is committed in rage..remove the gun and you will probalby have a fist fight, but few people die of a fist fight. Once a bullet leaves the chamber, it is too late to do anything about it. Remove the gun from people's hands, and people will no longer be killing people, regardless of what the NRA would like you to believe. Hunting guns should be kept locked outside the home! Good luck and peace, goldwing

You sir, are wrong on every argument you put up in this question.
First, a question for you. If you are attacked in some manner who do you call? Right, the cops. The cops carry firearms!
I will try and give you a cogent reason FOR firearm ownership in answer to your questions.
1. The British have tried this and the government is now dealing with assault by ANY means the criminal wants to use. It doesn't work.
2. A compound question. The only ones who have firearms in Britain are some specially trained law enforcement officers and criminals. Residents may still own long guns but can't keep ammunition in the house. The criminals already know what to do with their hands and a knife.
3. The most ridiculous statement in this whole rant against firearms. My career in law enforcement covered 29 years and YOU are telling me I will be killed with a criminal's gun? I don't think so. I own several firearms including a 380/9mm pistol. This piece is on me or within arms length 24/7. If the criminal attacks me, and under the Castle Doctrine Law of Florida, he won't get a second lick in. A criminal won't get the opportunity to surprise me because of my survival skills as an upland game hunter (deer, bear, moose and elk). These were all taken in trophy hunts with bow and arrow. The Marine Corp taught me more about ambush fighting and survival than any slow-witted dummy of a criminal.
4. Yeah, I'll argue this point with you. You have no inkling what Jesus Christ would do, neither do I. Its not a question of pretention but His words to the effect of protect yourself and your family, that's your primary job. I believe if attacked He would say to use whatever tool is at hand. And, yes we will still follow Christ and ask for forgiveness when we come to stand before the Great White Thrown. There to stand in judgement for deeds done while in the body and walked upon the earth.
5. How would an agnostic, non-believer or atheist answer this question. Usually it will be a promise made to do physical bodily harm upon the person of the miscreant. Because I have only two cheeks I turned both a long time ago, more times than I want to think about. The rest of this question you find in the answer above.
6. Where do you get these goofy assumptions? The question does not deserve an answer.
7. Once again you are dreadfully wrong. The war you speak of was the Battle For Independence. Just like a flaming liberal you down play and negate your own argument. Had you read the Origin of The Second Amendment a little further you would have found the formation of the Bill Of Rights and the formation of the CITIZEN SOLDIER because the Federal Government couldn't afford to put up a regular militia. Thus the states had to cobble together their own citizens to protect the state. Even then The Framers readily found it necessary to identify these patriots and their "RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS". Once again you take from history only what will help your cause. It didn't work did it? These days I would want you to walk up to our returning fighters and quote your last stupid sentence or say it to a cop who just brought your lost 6 year old home or caught a rapist with a 10 year old.
My last word: The U.S. Constitution, the Wise Nine and the Great State Of Florida said I can carry a concealed firearm. Therefore, I am and I remain the Protector Of My Family. Something you flamers will never understand.

I'm against gun control because it takes the guns out of the hands of good people not criminals. Do you think criminals have there guns registered? NO If we started taking guns away from people the people that obey the law would be the first to lose their guns and the criminals would still be going around shooting people. Some people use guns for protection but this isn't the only reason some people like hunting, or gun collecting. I don't think Jesus Christ is going to mind if someone uses a gun to get food for theie family. If there were no guns people would find other ways to kill each other. For example take prisons inmates they don't have guns so they make there own weapons to kill each other. We need a stricter legal system for people who use weapons of any kind against someone and for those who commit violant crimes. Then you will see our murder rates drop.

There's a problem with your preface. Great Britain and Australia recently banned ownership of most firearms in the wake of horrific crimes in their respective countries. In both nations the rate of homicide by firearms has gone up. New York City has banned ownership of handguns for over 100 years. Yet, a daily glance at any of the web sites for the newspapers in that city will show a homicide or two from a firearm. I own a hand gun. I've only had to draw it our of its holster on three occasions in the past 25 years. In each instance it was to prevent a crime. In two of those instances the intended victim was me. I never fired at anyone. Just the sight of the weapon was enough of a head-clearing for the criminally-bent individuals to abandon their purpose.
The criminal shoots first only when he is faced with what he believes is an unarmed victim. Burglars don't enter residences where they think the premises might be occupied at the time and one of the occupants might be armed.
The Second Amendment, along with the other nine which comprise the Bill of Rights, was put forth by Colonel George Mason of the Virginia Militia. He had fought for the British in the French and Indian War. His aide-de-camp in that war was a man named George Washington.

I wish people would think about the fact that we have a constitutional right to bear arms because most people lived in wilderness and there was very little law enforcement.
It was at a time when militias were formed to fight the British.
The idea that we need guns now to protect ourselves is ludicrous.
Gun control would eliminate guns available to criminals as well as good citizens. The rest of the world thinks we are idiots for owning so many guns and having them available so easily.
I have to agree with them.

I think that you have shot yourself in the foot with your opening paragraph; "If there were no guns in the country there would be few gun murders". With no guns in the country, how could you have any gun murders ?
I cannot see one valid point in your question, here in the UK, all pistols and semi-auto rifles above .22rf in calibre have been banned. Since 1997 armed crime in this country has increased by 100%, how do these figures give any credibility to your argument/rant for gun control?
In a recent survey, one in five men knew where they could obtain an illegal firearm, and this in a country with probably the strictest gun control in the world?
If you ban guns, only criminals will be armed, gun control does not work, the UK legislation has proved it to the world.

It's a constitutional right to bear arms in America, always has been and for a reason. We must inforce the laws that we have already.
The weapon doesn't kill but the man does Just as the pencil doesn't write without the hand.

You make a lot of good points for good honest Americans. Just as soon as you can get all the guns from the dishonest people who murder, rape, plunder and terrorize people I will gladly give you mine. The only thing that goes up against a gun is another gun.

Sorry, but I cannot go along with you on this at all and I am not a gun fan! It is just that if you have a killer, he/she will kill even if they had NO gun! PEOPLE kill, guns don't!
This line of thinking would take away our rights to defend our homes and our lives! What next? All of our knives as that is surely what would happen as I said, murderers will use anything!
Please look at your thinking and ask yourself, if we gave our guns up, how would you save your family from someone meaning to do great harm to them? Bite them? I think not!
