Technically, almost any floral name is fair game for use as a feminine name. And Magnolia is no exception. ;)

In fact, it was actually on the SSA's list of most commonly-given names nearly EVERY YEAR from 1880 to 1940! The only year it didn't make the list in that entire 60-year span was 1939. ;) So don't let anyone tell you it's not used as a name ... or that it shouldn't be. Check it out for yourself. http://www.socialsecurity.gov/cgi-bin/babyname.cgi

I'm sure the similarity to other feminine names, such as Margaret, Magdala and Magdalene, helps, as do the more familiar nickname possibilities -- Maggie, Molly, Nola, Mia, Lia, etc. Hope that helps! ;)

Magnolia is so pretty. You could call her Maggie.

the Magnolia blossom is one of the prettiest flowers that grows on trees.

It is a real name. Many flower names were popular in the Victorian era, and are coming back now. This is a rarer one!

Magnolia could certainly be a girl's name and Maggie would be the nickname! Same as Lily, or Rose or Violet. I like it a lot! Good luck!

Yes. My sister-in-law's best friend named her daughter Magnolia Kate. Not my favorite, but she isn't my daughter and to each his own.

Yes, & I think it's very pretty.
Kind of "classic"
Like Maybelle, or Genevieve

She could go by Maggie=)

It's alot better than some that name their child "Starlight" or "Spring"
But everyone is entitled to their opinion, and can name their child whatever they like=)
