The Seven Years War in Europe, known as the French and Indian War in America, ended in 1763. Britain had a budget deficit paying for that war and expected American taxes to help build up the treasury. The British felt they had spent money to help the colonists, so it was only fair to tax them. American colonists felt differently. It was the series of British taxes on the American colonies after 1763 which led to the American Revolution starting in 1775.
