As this is usually derived from fear or anger I would tend to say no.

It depends really on the type of anger. For instance, if you go around just hating everyone, that might be selfish. Durkheim would call it egoistic. However, if you hate an "other" that is recognized as hate-able it could very well be the opposite of selfish and could really be a very self-less emotion to have. For instance, having hatred for Osama bin Laden post-9/11 was (and is) a pretty selfless thing in that it is something that all of society engages in together.

I hope that makes sense and that it helped.

Yes hate is a selfish emotion. All emotions are selfish because it is your self that is feeling it; love and sympathy are selfish. Whether hate is destructive on the other hand is another matter.

I don't think it is selfish, but it may in the wrong setting be a negitive one.Like you can hate something very normal that most people hate.Like I hate disasters, especially ones where people can lose their life. And I am sure most people do too,so that is not selfish and it is not negitive either.I hate violence, and that doesn't make me selfish. When it is used to just plainly hate everything and everybody well it is a little on the negitive side though. It is strong emotion, like love.Love is not selfish. If someone hates sharing and therefore doesn't share well that may be rather selfish.

Certainly not, hate is usually generated due to some experience that someone has with another unless hatred is automatic directed at a particular race or group in society which then is just judgemental and tarring people with the same brush!

Hate is simply an emotion. Everyone hates! Learing to control "hate" is a postive selfish thing.

Often is it a childish one which does tend to ere on the side of selfish.

But emotions are often mixtures of elements which with give a Brand Name to, often (so it seems) for the sake of convenience. This saves us actually having to trouble ourselves with the 'thinking processes' which might involve taking responsibility for our selves and our behaviour. It's simpler just to lay blame at the doorway of some one or some thing 'out there.'

Sash.

No I would not call it selfish to hate but it is self destructive.....so best not to let it get a grip at all.
