PROS
1. Pretty good schools except for the ghetto ones. Public Schools in Jacksonville are rated according to a test called the FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) and Duval county is the 5-15th largest school district
2. Cost of living-dirt cheap compared to other places
3. City-bus is available
4. Great neighborhoods and our city just keeps growing
5. Bunches of events at downtown

CONS
1. Traffic, though we have a LOT of road projects some due for completion in 2010.
2. Some crime but not as exaggerated as other people say it.
3. 2 Naval Bases (airplanes but you get used to it)

Can I stow away in your trunk? I lived there from '63-'72 and still have good friends there. The city has become crowded, expensive, and ever expanding. The schools are excellent (or were) and the houses are expenisve compared to other places because the snowbirds (people coming south for the winter) buy up every apartment, house, trailer or condo they can and they have much more money than a family could ever hope to have. You might have to rent a place for starts. Bring a good car because it's a huge city and you'll be on the expressway a lot. The beach is gorgeous and people are usually very hospitable. I would move back if I could.

I lived there many years ago, and I liked it very well then. It's a large city with NAS which is a huge Naval Air Station. elisayn
