I think that love is altogether different from need. Because people today equate love with selfishness, thus She is MINE. MY love. MINE MINE MINE. I I I. But I think that when love(whatever love really is - there just are too too many definitions) leaves, what makes people stay together is friendship and understanding. A bond borne of love but cemented with time.

It might be another drive towards your being together but I don't think they are linked in any sort of bad way. If your primary reason for being with someone is necessity of not being alone I don't really think it's love. But if most of your reason is because of love and you just throw fear of dying alone on the pile for good measure I don't think it takes anything away from love.

I would say to the extent that we have 'need' in our love, then it's certainly linked to less spiritual aims. After all, we can love someone/something without needing anything from it.

That's a question with no defining answer. Everyone's definition is different with different feelings. It's also had to distinguish what is real love and what is a feeling of lonliness covering it up with desperation to feel loved.
