Does Barry Bonds being a black man play a part in why the majority of baseball fans ( which are white america), despise him?

After all, after Mcgwire was caught with a steroid in his locker in 98 ( yes, legal at the time, but so was the clear and cream, two steroids that barry is accused of using), and nobody asked for baseball to asterisk his ball or homerun total. The same for gaylord perry who won 314 games while altering the baseball illegally. is it because they are white?

none of you have anwsered my question. If anything, you've furthur added proof that race plays a part in the hatred towards Barry. Nothing Barry has said or done hasn't been done by countless others. It's sticks out because he's a black man, bar-none. Like it or not, white america is still very racist.

No race is not a factor it is his personality that is.

Let's see, McGwire was not voted into the HOF last year and has pretty much vanished as the love for him did. No asterisk, but the message there seems clear.
People seem to have always liked Ken Griffey, Jr., a black non-cheating player. We LOVED Kirby Puckett in the Twin Cities, even after some nasty rumors about him circulated.

Barry is himself a racist. He dumped his mistress because he said he had to marry a black woman for appearances and fumed about McGwire being a white guy who was allowed to cheat. Team-mates stretching back to high school have said about the same thing, that Barry plays the race card and will say insulting things about white people.

Oh, and Barry stole the record from Henry Aaron. What's Aaron, a nice Jewish-Irish kid from the neighborhood?

And Barry is not simply accused of taking cream and clear--he admitted it in a grand jury.

What McGwire did was not steroids, andro is more along the lines of the HGH and was not banned in baseball, nor illegal by US Law.
Steroids, without a prescription were illegal according to US law.
So, Barry broke the law to break the record.
Additionally, I do believe that Barry began his reign of steroids because he didn't want the attention going to McGwire and Sosa. So, instead of turning them in, he chose to join them.

With McGwire, at least he had the big #'s all along with 49 homers in his rookie season, and a high hr/ab ratio that led him to 52, 58, 70, 65 home runs.
Bonds went from 49 to 73 and back down to mid 40's. His change was drastic, thus more chance that his #'s were affected by his illegal choices.

No it isn't. And where do you get that from? It's people like you who start pointing out racism that make america sound very much racist when it really isn't. Yes there is some but I'm hearing more racism from African Americans. This has nothing to do with it so don't even bring it up.

Edit: Very true about Hank Aarons. He was black (which you fail to mention) and nothing went on with him except for the homerun record. He was just very quiet in the way he did it.

undergo in strategies, merely considering you're paranoid would not advise no person's out to get you... ;) Can 'race' incredibly have that a lot to do with it on the instant? Racial equality has been an unimpeachable dogma for 2 generations, now - that is gotten to the factor that that is conservatives, no longer liberals, protecting the belief of the 'colour blind' society of MLKjr's admired Dream.

I don't think race plays as much a role as his attitude towards the media. Once the media (reporters) don't like you, they establish the image that is carried throughtout the country. I think his total denial of using steroids hurts him more than if he just admitted to it when it was legal. Barry has never been loved by the fans, even when he was in Pittsburgh starting out. He went O fer in the playoffs for them and didn't take the heat for it. That left a bitter taste in the mouths of the Pirate faithful.

Yes. The fact that Hank Aaron is also black only tells half the story. Hank just went about his business, and was very mild mannered, so he wasn't so offensive (for lack of a better word) to many white fans.

Barry is very outspoken and hates the media (so did Ted WIlliams) and doesn't spout all the accepted cliches when giving interviews. This, coupled with the race card, is double whammy.

And sure, everybody hates Mcguire NOW....

reasons barry is hated

cold to the media
throws his teammates under the bus(sweeny)
steroids
refuses to admit to steroids
plays only when he wants to
and most importantly he is just in general an ******

edit-tonswer the second part of your question. he is held under a finer microscope, because he tainted the greatest record in baseball

Neifi Perez, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Palmeiro, Fernando Tatis are all minorities, and all were on steroids or amphetamines, but they dont get the heat that bonds does. do you know why? its because they never broke the all time homerun record. race is not a factor. plain and simple, bonds is a jerk who deserves no respect in the sporting world

Actually, I have the same disdain towards Mark Mcgwire and Sammy Sosa as I do Bonds. They are all cheaters and thgeir accomplisments in Baseball should be stricken from any record books. They know they cheated and know so do we. Race has nothing to do with anything for me.

i think the only time race plays a factor in this is when barry tries to pull out the race card and says that people are just being racist toward him and this makes people more mad b/c he's accusing them of being racist. no barry, you're a high-profile jack*ss that cheated. look at palmeiro, if palmeiro was going after 755, he would have been only slightly less hated (only because he has a slightly less abrasive personality). bottom line- people hate barry b/c the side we see of him is one that gets in fights w/ his teammates and is always disgruntled and has the most hallowed record of all-time.

Mcgwire does not have the record any more. Race has nothing to do with it. It is just people trying to make it look that way to make Bonds Haters look bad.
