Use the order of operations.
If you're doing a problem where only adding and subtracting is involved, you go in order, unless parentheses are involved. So 1+2-3, you'd do it in the order that it's written.

Just remember to remember the sequence MDAS(Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction). This means that if there are any other process such as multiplication or division then multiplication go first followed by division...If there is no multiplication or division then skip it to proceed on the next process which is addition and subtraction and remember the sequence (MDAS).....Well the next process after multiplication and division is Addition so we Add first, in your case that will be 1+2 then you get an answer of 3 (1+2=3) then proceed to the last process which is Subtraction, where you subtract your previous answer, so 3-3 and that will be zero... In summary the process will be
(1+2) -3..(MDAS).... REMEMBER (MDAS sequence) only works in numbers without a parenthesis like the one you have 1+2-3... or 5+6-4 or 4-6+2 this follow the MDAS sequence.... HOWEVER you might might encounter in the future a question with a parenthesis like this... (3+5) x 6 + (4-5)... In this case MDAS cannot be applied because you have to do first whatever math process (add, subtract, multiply, divide) that is inside the parenthesis...Then after doing all those number in the parenthesis then you proceed to MDAS sequence....

Subtraction and multiplication can be done in any order. This is from the associative property of addition. This works for subtraction also because subtraction is just like adding the negative of a number.

order of operations
Rule 1: First perform any calculations inside parentheses.
Rule 2: Next perform all multiplications and divisions, working from left to right.
Rule 3: Lastly, perform all additions and subtractions, working from left to right.
left to right!
(1+2) - 3 = 0 !

It don't matter in which order you will solve it if it is only addition and subtraction... MDAS (multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction) rule will apply if the not only addition and subtraction is involve in the problem

When you get problems like that just work from left to right :)
Unless there are parenthacies of exponents or multiplication or anything else like that just work from left to right.
so 1+2=3
3-3=0
Hope I explained it so that you understood.

have you ever heard of "please excuse my dear aunt sally"?this is simple. the p-paranthesis,e-exponents,m-multiplication,d-division,a-addition and s- subtraction. this is called order of operations. you work the parenthesis first, then the exponents, then multiplication and division(left to right) then addition and subtraction (left to right)
for this one it would be 1+2=3
then -3
which would be 3-3=0
