With the cities around the coast and near the ports I would venture to say South Carolina would have been the more influencial of the two in the 1800's.
Today it would have to be Northa Carolina.

I'm not sure of your questions. North Carolina and South Carolina are two different states not "sides" of the same. The western region of NC has beautiful mountains, rivers, and a few lakes. The middle region is rather flat. But of course the coastal area has beauty of its own. However, the coast of NC is not all beaches.

SC has a few mountains in the far northwest corner. The beaches in SC are mostly on outer islands off the coast.

Riches? Well, every state has it's share of rich people. As this is a social studies question you might be asking about a particular time in history. Before the Civil War Charleston, SC was a very wealthy community.

Today; Charlotte NC is a large banking center in the southeast.
