so ive been put in Algebra 1
heres a example question my teacher gave us but i cant understand the dam homework.
its so frustrating

can anybody please tell me step by step on how to do this?
the rules our teacher gave us was
1.Simplify
2. Undo add or subt. getting the variables and constants together.
3. undo Mult. \ DIvision
4. Check
heres the problem

7x + 10 = 2x -25

i know that x = -7
but i need the steps. please help
and if anybody can, please make me another problem something like this so its differant so i know what to do, so i can try for myself.

7x + 10 = 2x -25
Rearrange, 7x-2x+10+25=0
Simplify: 5x+35=0
Rearrange: 5x=-35
Simplify( What you do to the Left side you do to the rigth side): 5x/5=-35/5
x=-7

1. U need to put all your "x" on the same side of the equation. Move 2x with 7x. 2 multiplied by 'X' becomes 2x dividing 7x when U switch side.
7x + 10 = -25
2x

2. Move +10 with -25. + 10 becomes -10 when U switch side.
7x = -25 - 10 7-2=5 so 5x.
2x

3. resolve
5 X "x" = -35 which is 5 multiplied by x (-7) = -35

4. -35 = -35

hope it's right.

The easiest way to do this problem is bring the x's to one side. So substract 2x on both sides and get 5x + 10 = -25. Then you want to subtract 10 on both sides to cancel the 10 on the left side and you'll be left with 5x = -35. After this divide the 5 into -35 and you'll get -7. So you were right, x = -7. As for another problem try this 5x + 20 = 3x +50. Just send it to my email and I'll check it for you.

1) divide by common denominator. There aren't any here. 2) add the x's together and the numbers together. bring the 2x over to the first side and the 10 over to the other:
(7x-2x)=-25-10
5x=-35 (divide by 5)
x=-7
check, plug it in
7(-7) +10=2(-7)-25
-49 + 10 = -14 -25
-39 = -39

First get the variables together by subtracting/ adding from either side of the equation.
In 2y + 16=3y , you would subract 2y from either side of the equation like so......(2y-2y) +16= 3y-2y
This leaves you with 16 = 1y, or y=16
Then get your constants together like 7+z= 23
z=23-7
z=16
then undo the multiplication or division...Like q/5=8
5( q/5)=8(5)
q=40

then plug in the numbers to the oiginal question to see if you are correct.

1. Combine like values. You would subtract 2x into 7x to make it 5x since you use the opposite sign (+ or -) to combine values and also you would subtract 10 into -25 to make 35.

2. Divide. 5x = -35. Divide -5 into -35 to make -7. X = -7.

Let your teacher know that you're struggling. You may be able to get a tutor, or he/she will work with you to help you understand it, or you may get reassigned into another math class. But DON'T sit quietly and get frustrated. Algebra classes build on what you learned last week, and it's just the start of the year. If you don't understand it at this level, the next level will be all greek to you, and the next level after that will be nothing but klingon.

7x + 10 = 2x - 25
-2x -2x

5x + 10 = -25
(-10) + 5x + 10 = -25 (-10)

5x = -35
5x(/5) = -35(/5)

x = -7

7x+10=2x-25

(7x -2x) +(10-10)=(2x-2x)(-25-10) I use parenthesis so you can see the steps only

5x = -35
x = -35 divided by 5

x = 7
