Impossible to tell, could be as easy as a $2 fuse to as big as a $500 compressor. Either the compressor is not cutting in due to several reasons or there is no refrigerant in the system due to a leak. Bring it to a shop that offers an A/C inspection and ask for a quote, it's the only real way to know.
Hope this Helps

A/C repairs can be costly!
It all depends on what is wrong with it.
It could be simple as a burnt fuse?
It could be a compressor or a evaporator or a condenser etc.
Take it to a garage that you trust!
If they do not deal with a/c repairs then ask for a good place to take it to.
Ask for a written quote to repair it when the diagnostics is done!
You will probably be into a minimum of a hour for diagnostics.
Your car is getting older! You could be into one problem after another!

Yes, it could be expensive. It sounds like you've lost your refrigerant. Freon is expensive. I don't know about the new stuff. But, replacing seals or hoses or whatever caused you to lose your refrigerant could cost a bundle.
