I`m very active. i play basketball, volleyball & i dance. my knee is kinda ment to be in pain. anyways, i went to the doctor because i was getting this pain in my left knee & it was all swollen. she said that my tendents overstreched & it caused inflammation to my bone & muscle. & it only happens when i jump. or when im active. she said it's most likely going to be on & off for the next year. so it stopped hurting for a month. now it started hurting again. i dance everyday & play basketball everyday. & i ice it regurarely. but it still hurts. what can i do to make it feel better?
im a girl btw, if that helps. & im not old. im 13

i had this EXACT same problem! the only thing was my knee made a really loud crunching pop noise when i bent it. i was in dance and alot of things as well, and one day after practice my knee swelled up to the size of a grape fruit! i went to the doctor because i was having pain, adn he said my tendens were stretched out and the cartilage of my kneecap was rubbing on the bones of my leg, and it would be completely gone if i didnt get surgery! they had to tighten my tendens and do a knee scope....it feels better now, for the most part. I suggest wearing a knee brace when you are doing activities that involve bending your knee. it will keep it protected and keep those tendens from stretching any more.
hope this helped! :-)

I'm going to give McGraw Hill the benefit of the doubt, that her suggestion of 4 x 200mg of Motrin was a typo. Prescription ibuprofen is 600 mg per dose, not 800. Yes, see a doctor! That kind of pain is not a thing to ignore! Do your knees hurt with both kinds of saddle? My knees often suffer when riding a western saddle if the stirrups aren't turned correctly, and an English saddle if the stirrups are too short *for my preference*. Yes, I prefer a longer stirrup than is *correct*, especially compared to a jumping stirrup length. For the western, soak the stirrup leathers and dampen the backside of the fenders (don't soak them because the wet place will leave a mark on the front side), then turn the stirrups and hold them in place until they dry. It's best to do this around a barrel or something that will push against the stirrup to force the leathers to bend sharply. Just hanging on a sawhorse won't be as effective, but it will help some. If the saddle has users with different leg lengths, it's best to oil and soften the leathers where they go over the tree, then you can move that end instead of moving the carefully shaped stirrup end and losing that shaping. I've found that the horse liniment called Thermoflex Gel is great for painful joints and stiff muscles - but I'm more than 3 times your age! You should not be suffering this way at age 14, and it might be doing damage that will cause you even worse pain as you age. Please see a doctor or sports therapist about this! You can also work on your horse's "need" for "lots of leg". A well-trained horse should respond to light cues from legs and reins. If you can't get the help of a trainer to lighten your horse's responses, get some mild spurs to reduce the amount of pressure you need to apply. Your mom should not be letting you refuse medical attention. It's the job of parents to make sure kids are safe and healthy and not injuring themselves.

Wow,first of all,i have the same problem with my knee and im 12,so what you should do is just rest your knee, ice it,then hot pack it, then wrap it with that bandade stuff, and take some painkillers (but not to much!),if its gets worse, get it checked again. And i think it just means that your really active!

sounds like some sort of tendonitis. it doesn't ever go away permanently. the best thing is avoiding what caused the pain in the first place. my tendonitis is something which i avoided, and still avoid the causes, today. if it's jumping, stop jumping. it's that simple. but at your age it's tough, i know. good luck.

Try losing weight. The heavier you are the more strain there is on your joints.
