The real people that should be punished harshly are the white collar criminals...... if that happens crime will probably slow down a lot. But it never will.... so yeah lets imprision the people because they are screwed over so badly they have to make ends meet what ever way they see fit.

No.

I really believe that criminal behavior stems from what a person experiences as a child. When I used to work for a probation/parole office what really struck me was how messed up many of the probationers/parolees were. Many had very abusive or dysfuctional childhoods; many were taught how to commit crimes by their parents. These particular probationers/parolees are living lives that are outside of society and they do not view themselves as part of society. A lot of them were never treated with respect or care, so you can't be suprised when they treat everybody else without respect or care.

Putting someone in prison for a longer time doesn't help anything except it may teach that person how to be a better rapist or burglar. You have to remember that eventually, that person will be free again. Obviously the death penalty does not stop crime because people continue to commit henious acts against others.

Throw away the main for repeat offenders, they had a raffle to alter.

In ancient times they punished criminals much harsher than now - they were impaled, burned at stake, their hands were cut off, their tongues were ripped off and it didn't solve the problem of crime even a bit. Cruelty breeds cruelty and it is a vicious circle.

Punishment has nothing to do with SOLVING crimes.

Harsher punishment is a form of a deterrant for crime, but they don't always work.

It is only a solution if it is actually ENFORCED. Supposedly there are laws against truancy, but kids still skip school all the time. The laws just aren't enforced.

In some instances, yes, definately. Death penalty...guarantees that the criminal will never, ever murder another human being in cold blood. Not ever.
