If n and n+1 are the page numbers, n + n + 1 = 281

2n = 280 and n = 140

Page numbers on facing pages are one number apart (i.e. 1 and 2, 5336 and 5337, etc)

Let x = the number of the page on the left
x + 1 =the number of the page on the right

x + (x + 1) = 281
2x + 1 = 281
2x = 280
x = 140 -----> x + 1 = 141

Therefore, the page numbers are 140 and 141
