Castor oil packs are great for chronic pain (especially things like bone spurs). On the plus side, you don't have to take it internally. Depending on the pain, I'd recommend making one. They're really simple!
Get a piece of fabric such as wool or flannel (because they hold in the heat incredibly well!) or a blend containing one of them. Cut the fabric as large or as small as you need. Get some cold-pressed castor oil. I couldn't tell you exactly why it should be cold-pressed right now. I just know that it's better a la all my teachers. haha Soak the fabric in the oil. Feel free to wring it out. It doesn't need to be drippy. Place the fabric on the area that's hurting. My mom always wraps the area in plastic wrap so she doesn't make a mess. Get a heating pad and sit back and relax. :) If it's in a place like your foot, feel free to wear it overnight, but I suggest wrapping it in something like plastic wrap so you don't make a mess.
As a small side note: you can even let it dry. Get a good pair of flannel pjs and soak them. Let them dry. You do not have to wear dripping pjs to bed. But by letting them soak and dry, the castor oil still comes in contact with you because it's held within the fabric.
