Security. Corns hide in small crevices in the wild. Out of instinct, your corn is hiding in a tight place as it feels secure there. Try providing a smaller hide box. They like to feel the sides of the hide touching them when they are hiding

Mine still do this as adults. Make sure your screen cover is on very tight! I had a baby escape by doing this and never found it. They can squeeze through amazingly small spaces.
They can get down from there, but mine usually fall down. Now I have driftwood that goes close to the top, so they can use it to climb down.

lol....most baby corns do this! It freaked me out when my baby corn first did this...they are just looking for a way out. Make sure your lid has good locks on it--they are escape artists. He can get down just fine, don't worry. :) You might enjoy this forum if you love cornsnakes...lots of friendly, helpful experts. I've learned a lot from them.

my snake is two years old, and he still does that. one of my snakes died doing that, so be very careful and you might want to get a different lid, especially if your snake is getting stuck. whenever you see him up there, immediately take him down. they can get stuck and break their necks.
