i don't know an exact formula to do it...but, i just tried random numbers. Here's the answer I got:

Orville is now 25 and Wilbur is 15.
Five years ago, Orville was 20 and Wilbur was 10. Orville was twice as old as Wilbur.
Five years from NOW, Orville will be 30 and Wilbur will be 20. Orville will then be 1.5 times the age of Wilbur.

Sometimes you have to guess at the numbers until they fit.

O = orville W = wilbur

2(w-5) = (o-5)
3/2 * (w+5) = (o + 5)

It is w -5 and o-5 because it was five years ago, so they were five years less than their age now. It is w+5 and 0+5 because it is five years from now, so they will be five years more than their current age.

To solve:
2(w-5) = (o-5)
2w-10 = o-5
2w - 5 = o

3/2 * (w+5) = (o + 5)
3/2 * (w+5) = [(2w - 5 ) +5]
3w/2 + 15/2 = 2w
3w/2 + 15/2 = 4w/2
15/2 = w/2
15=w

2(w-5) = (o-5)
2(15-5) = (o-5)
20 = o-5
25 = o

Wilbur is 15 years old. Orville is 25 years old.

Hope that helps. If it doesn't, just update and say exactly what you need help with.

Let
o = age Orville now
w = age Wilbur now

o - 5 = 2(w - 5) = 2w - 10
o + 5 = (3/2)(w + 5) = (3/2)w + 15/2

Subtract the first equation from the second.

10 = -w/2 + 5/2
20 = -w + 5
15 = -w
w = 15

Plug into the first equation to solve for o.

o - 5 = 2w - 10
o = 2w - 5 = 2*15 - 5 = 25

Wilbur is 15 and Orville is 25.
