Is it possible that we are nothing more that a collection of random chemicals that somehow became self-aware? Or is the arrogance of a human being too great to acknowledge such a thing? I have noticed that most people do not like to face the possibility that we are "accidents". Every religion in existance is dedicated to "proving" that we are here by some Grand Design, but so far all I have heard is "it's true because we say it's true, trust us". The Bible was written by human beings. Human beings lie. What makes anyone think the Bible is true?

Dude... you've just sprung the pandora's box of relativity... the fact that you're able to ask this question should be in itself, a proof of you're uniqueness and/ or - depending again on your relative perspective - being 'special'.
Then you took the question into the realm of faith which kinda defeats the purpose of asking it in the first place because isn't faith relative too? I mean, you question what others truly and wholly believe and submit to, so doesn't that make the subject relative (assuming you respect the possibility that others may be right and that you're truly looking for an answer and haven't made up your mind already...)
But here's my idea... think and feel and then be what you are! Special, ordinary, accident or plan, you exist... THAT'S gotta be worth something...

Excellent questions. And ones for which we have no good answers (and probably will --never-- have any good answers). Even assuming that we might someday be able to 'go back in time' and film the 'big bang' there'd be Creationists arguing that was the way 'God' created the Universe. And it's an argument you can't win since every time you demonstrate the cause of something, that cause becomes something that was, in turn, 'caused' by God.

As I've said before; It's a bit like trying to teach Calculus to a cat. All you'll ever do is frustrate yourself and irritate the cat.

hmmm try these: one piece: doesnt really benefit the worl and such, but Luffy and his crew are the good guys altho they are pirates. they all have 'inhuman' abilities because they are really strong. ps,first part pf the anime drawing might not be so nice but overall it good :) kuroshitsuji: ( I LOVE THIS ANIME) altho ciel contracted with a demon sabestian, he is the queen's gaured dog and settles underground issues for the queen of England trinity blood: he is a crunsik which is a vampire that sucks the blood of other vampires. he works for the Vaticians and is often sent on missions to destroy the vampires that disturbs the peace between the establshing relationship between humans and vampires. his character is kinda like the main character dude from trigun (sry i forgot his name, it has been a long time) 07-ghost: Teito Klain is the long lost prince/master of the eye of micheal and is the prince of Raggs, which is a very powerful stone. the imperial army are the bad guys who has been trying to attain the stone and concure the world. Teito struggles through many obsticles including being brand as a slave and mistreated and insulted by others and as a killing machine for the imperial army (he escaped the imperial army and is now back in Raggs. he lost all his past memories and is slowly retrieving them bck as he spends time at the church with 4 of the legandary 7 ghost who works for god. no one else knows the 7 ghost exist on earth, they think they are in heaven) he also looses his best fren, the only one who excepted him in the process. hellsing/hellsing ultimate: Alucard, an original vampire, works for a human organisation called Hellsing which exterminated artificial vampires created by an evil human organisation Alucard is stronger than most vampires. tower of druaga: Jill and co. sets off on a quest to reach the top of the legendary tower. however inside the tower homes ferocious monsters and trials. they struggle through the difficult times together and met many people during their advanture these are the best anime of that genre that i can thing of for now :)

I don't look to the Bible to validate my meaning in this world. It's a book, like any other, it depends on how I interpret its contents to reflect my self-image. There are a million ways to do that, if one so wishes. We listen to certain songs depending on our moods, memorise certain quotes or poems to reflect certain events. It's all in your self image. How you wish to think of yourself, special or not. If it is an accident that I'm here, well, I am thankful for it. I love life, I love the people in my life. I love my friends and family, and I learn all I can from every person who has stepped in and out of my life. It's not all bad, it's what you make it to be!

Lies are only a side issue. We are but one species in a vast array of life. Delusions of being special are one way to get through the day.

We agree. This is what leads to our arrogance and to some of our actions in the world. This is our world and our universe to do with as we please. We're special!

Even if the Bible is true, what makes you think "we" are special? I don't want to be a Bible thumper, but, the comparison was made between man and a worm. We are not that special!

We seem to be the only creatures (as far as we can currently tell) that can apprehend, understand and appreciate the inherent intelligibility of existence. On that basis, we seem fairly special-- even if we are "accidents"...

a lot of people are grasping for a 'purpose' in life and religion gives them that while 'accidents' kinda takes it away.

I think there are other ways to find a purpose though.

You have a good point. Of course I would like to enjoy myself, so I don't want to come to that conclusion. But who really knows?
