Stick around awhile youngster. Genocide, rape, murder, pillage in African countries is an annual event. There is no stopping it, because it pops up all over the continent, and it happens every year.
Most civilized countries have turned their backs on places like Darfur/Congo, because they know it can't be resolved, without a huge commitment from many countries, and that's just not going to happen.
Politicians have learned to avoid any commitment to Africa because it's a black hole for political resolve.
Let the college campuses blow off steam all they want, people have stopped listening. African countries will not help themselves, and civilized countries have given up trying !

First of all, the US is overstretched in the middle east, (troops, supplies etc). We are barely wallowing in Iraq, if we went to Darfur we will have to bring back the draft.
Secondly, the so called West is caught in a catch-22 , if we dont go we are indifferent, we only care about oil crap. But if we were to intervene, then the west is the baby killers, oil-hungry, war mongers.
SO WHICH ONE IS IT?
BTW how come the Arab league is not doing anything? or the African Union?
How about Iran, instead in investing in dirty nuclear energy why not help their fellow muslims?
What is defeaning is the silence of those closest to those poor people...

What I don't get, is liberals whine about how we should be going into Darfur, which is a civil war, but at the same time they complain about us being in Iraq, because they claim that's a civil war....
I say this is an issue for the impotent and corrupt UN and the AU to resolve, not us.
Plus, the Chinese government has it's dirty fingers in Sudan. Buying oil from and selling arms to the Sudanese government.

Because they are Black????? NO! Who cares if they are black, pink or orange? I just think that we as Americans (Well at least me and hopefully some others) believe that unless it affects our national security or interests, there are plenty of other "hot-button" political issues which need our attention here in America. When all of our problems are solved, let's go help Darfur and any other country who needs help.

Yes, and people on college campuses also shout Free Tibet and Free Leonard Peltier. Luckily they are irrelevant to public opinion.
The US intervened in one tribal war in Africa. US soldiers were killed, and their bodies dragged through the streets of Somalia. Trying to stop tribes from killing each other is a futile measure, and Americans are not dumb enough to try again.

We simply have no "hot-button" interests there. Sad but true, that has to weigh in on our priorities abouv human life.
Secondly the media hasn't really "Made it" a hot spot.

I think it is simply that we are overextended in the middle east right now. There will be outcry after we're done over there. Write a paper on that and use history as your reference.
