One of my neighbors found out I'm from Texas, and he thinks I'm Mexican because of that and that I'm an immigrant. No matter what I tell him, he still insits I'm from another country.
How do I politely tell him Texas is NOT part of Mexico anymore?

He must not have been paying attention in history class.

I guess the first thing that pops into my head is this person serious? I mean...i can't imagine not knowing that. Maybe showing them a map of the united states, and in detail explaining, that No..Mexico and Texas are not the same would help. Still seems a little silly and odd that you would even need to that. But then again, People in Utah when finding out i lived in New Mexico automatically Think I'm Hispanic, and ask me what it's like to live in Mexico. I repeatedly have to remind people that New Mexico is in America and that I am not Hispanic by any means just because i lived in new Mexico.

Sounds to me like you've tried polite, and it didn't work. Try these; if they don't work, give up. You'll have a better conversation discussing Shakespeare with the dog.

Tell him that is what happens when you drop out of third grade. (Or run for beauty queen from the Carolinas).

Tell him you used to live next to the POTUS. If he doesn't know POTUS is President of the United States, tell him you're contacting immigration immediately and having HIM deported!

You can not fix stupid. Some people think that New Mexico is a country and not a state.
