I recommend the band A-Ha. They were a swedish band. "Take on Me" was their big hit. But, they have other great tunes that were never released in the USA.
Other New Wave bands are Missing Persons, New Order, Psychedelic Furs, the Cure, and Flock of Seagulls.
You should definitely watch VH1 Classic. They show all those bands and more.
Another good tune is "Don't You Want Me" from Human League.
