a labor and delivery nurse can be a fun job, but just remeber that even in healthy pregnancies, something can go wrong. Be prepared to deal with stillbirths and babies that only live a few hours, as well as maternal deaths. You will also be dealing with mothers who have had inadequate prenatal care, drug babies, and very young mothers. If you have the stamina to do the job then more power to you!!

RE:
What are great careers that have to do with dealing with newborn babies?
I am in High School and I need to start thinking about careers. I want to go to college and I LOVE babies. I was thinking maybe a neonatologist or a neonatal nurse. I would really like to be one of the nurses that takes care of the newborn babies in the maternity ward. Like the ones that change...

There is no medical job working with 100% healthy babies. If you work in a neonatal unit, you will be taking care of healthy and sick infants. No offense, but you won't get a high paying job to take care of healthy newborns.
Why don't you look into working as a nanny or in a day care facility? The only time you would be guaranteed to work with all healthy babies is if you are some kind of nurses aide in a hospital nursery. Good Luck.

I am in school to be an early interventionist. That is someone who works either within the school district or the health and hospitals system, (or private practice...but you would probably need to put in time and experience doing the others first) with children birth to 5 who are born with developmental delays, other disorders, or are considered "at risk" for one reason or another. At my university the major is included within the college of education and listed as special education-early interventionist. I want to work with the babies, 0-3 but you are also able to teach sped preschool and maybe k with this degree. With the babies, service is usually provided in the home or other "natural setting" as required by law. Look it up for more information and see if its something you might be interested in. Also infant care in a child development center is another career you may want to look into.
Good Luck!

If you don't want be around the sick ones, you do not want to be in NeoNatal.. My twin sons were in the NICU unit for a week... There were some babies sicker than them and one couple lost their baby during that time frame. I wish you well and bless you for wanting to be a Nurse with babies...

Midwifery. Midwives handle labour, delivery and getting feeding (and other things right), so you would see heaps of new babies, without seeing a majority of sick ones.
