I started in college at the University of South Carolina in 1981. I've attended 12 colleges and universities since then, have two bachelor's degrees and one master's degree. I've taken a lot of courses that didn't fit into my degrees but I just wanted to learn the material.

I also earned diplomas in nursing, carpentry and masonry, harbor craft operations, early ed., technical writing, and editing among others.

For some people, education is simply a lifelong effort and it never ends. Some of us just like to learn new things and you can never run out of cool new things to learn.

So for me, the maximum is something beyond 26 years. An MBA is underway now (finished next year) and then I will need a doctorate in something - maybe two.... ☺

For a Bachelor's degree minimum is however long it takes you to complete the program (120 credit hours usually) which i have seen people do in 3 years, and up to 5 years. An associates degree is 2 years. If you go for longer (graduate school) you will spend 1-3 more years. A doctorate and Ph. D take a LOT longer, depending on the field, sometimes up to 10 years!

it all depends on what you want to be when you grow up, you can spend as little as 8 months and be finished college or spend the rest of your life, easest way to figure out how long your program will take is contact a college or university and talk to them, just remember school is not cheep so know what you want befoure you jump into anything! good luck and happy learning!
