I called IHOP to make sure they were still hiring for the position of server or hostess and the conversation on the phone was going quite well so I told them I'd come the next day to drop off my resume and fill out the application. A few days later the manager called me and said she put me on shift on Friday and Saturday. I didn't have to go to an interview and so on. I mean is this possible or too good to be true?
Also, in canada if we are under 15 we are suppose to have written permission from our parents before we work so the manager told me to get my parents to write one, but how come some of my friend who are a few months younger than me didn't have to. Kind of confused here.
Thanks.

It's unusual, but it does happen. Sounds like they really needed somebody right away, and you made a very good impression on the phone.

The places where your friends work might not be following the law as closely as IHOP, if they aren't requiring parents' written permission.

They likely used your phone call as an interview. Interviews are only used to get a feel for the person. It sounds like they already have a good impression.

As for the written permission, employers occassionally don't follow the rules. In some states in the US, you have to have written permission from the school board if you're under a certain age. It's not unusual for restaurants to skip it and hope they don't get caught. I guess it's the same in Canada.

It happens all the time, it's called getting hired on the spot.

Most of the time, you at least have a connection to people at the new company, but that's not always the case. Congratulations on your first job.

Congratulations on your new job...Getting hired that way only means that you carried yourself in such a mature way over the phone that they beleive that it would have been a waste of time to meet you prior to hiring....Good Luck

yes, it is possible. I got a job once at a daycare without one, when I was in High School.
