Your swim coach is completely WRONG. Despite what everyone else is saying your period will NOT stop in the water. It keeps going. The only difference is is that the water will wash it away and embarass you - it will also stain a little spot in your swimsuit. You can either wear a tampon or a menstrual cup and go swimming or stay out of the pool.. There are no other options.. Seriously, would YOU want to swim with another girl who has her period and isn't using any protection? Exactly. It's unsanitary. Best of luck!

I really think your teacher is crazy, if you do not wear a tampon you are going to get blood all over you and in the pool, what is her reason for telling you this don't she know you will bleed regardless of being in a pool, have you ever sat in a tub of water while you bath without a tampon when you are on your period, you will see blood. The thing is you can swim with a tampon on and it will be fine, girls do this all the time. So wear your tampon and go swim, get that grade that u need. But please wear the tampon.!!!!

I wouldn't listen to your teacher. Although your flow may be reduced underwater, it will not stop completely, and you don't want to risk the embarrassment. Use a tampon next time you have to swim, and make sure to have the correct absorbency to match your flow. You can swim comfortably that way. I was once at my relative's vacation home, and all we did was swim for two days straight...and I was on my period, using a tampon. I was fine, and you will be too :)

ahh why do teachers tell their students they can swim on their period without tampons? i personally don't think its very hygenic, and I'm sure the other students would not thank you for it. And it is very possible that you will leak and stain your bathing suit too. Its best if you wear a tampon

Don't take her advice!!! WEAR A TAMPON! If you don't then when you get out of the water the blood will just come out really really fast! Also if you don't wear one then there is a chance that it will get in the pool and you will be totally embarrased!!! Wear a tampon! =)

YES you DO have to wear a tampon in the water, your flow will NOT stop nor will it slow down, it only gets dispersed quickly.
DO NOT go swimming without a tampon.

if you got your period and going in water you should use a tampon. it will NOT leak. tapons are for girls who are going into the water and got their period.it's better if you never use a tapon you should start using it now so you'll be used to it and it'll be comfortable when you use it in the water. and no one can tell if you got a tampon but you have to change every couple of hours.

no the contact with water stops period...like when you take a shower period stops but as soon as you get out it comes back again. So i recomend that you wear a tampon even if you're in the water so that when you come out nothing will spill. jeje

I went to the pool one time when I was having my period and no tampon. The water stops your period. And chill out. People are saying that it will start coming when you get out. I got out plenty of times to wait in line for diving board or water slide. None came out, no red water, NOTHING! Course when I changed out of my swimsuit, it was red. But just a little red on where the blood actually comes out, but nothing to worry about, gets cleaned easily. So don't worry 'bout it.

I heard that if a woman is in water with her period, she won't bleed until after she gets out of the water. This was how it is so that if a woman is in the ocean and she has her period, her blood won't draw sharks ;)
I've been to pools and the ocean with my period and I never saw any red water. But carefeul, if you get in and out a lot, some blood might get on your bathing suit.
