In 2004 the democrats made it sound like John Kerry's military service during Vietnam was the most important thing in the world, while making fun of George W. Bush for "only" serving in the Air National Guard. That being said, why isn't Vietnam combat experience important now that Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama are running for office? Why wasn't it an issue with Bill Clinton or Al Gore?

It will be, but it seems to be insignificant right now. Wait till the primaries. Most probably don't want to try to compare to McCain's military record. maybe once he's gone.

Take a look at the various chickenhawk websites to see how the republicants stack up to the democrats in terms of actually doing military service.

American women were in Vietnam - mainly as nurses but I would be there were other women there in non-nurse, non-combat roles.

When the Tet offensive took place, pretty much everyone, cooks, bakers and candlestick makers went to Hue to push out the North Vietnamese. A bit more dangerous than what "had better things to do" cheney faced, or "bring it on" bush. Being in VN or Iraq is not the same as sitting in the Whitehouse or fox studio and talking tough - as the chickenhawks like to do.

because it was impossible for Hilary to serve and barak is too young. But other than the facts, it is an outrage that they weren't in vietnam. Hillary should have been born a man so she could serve and Barak should have been born earlier!

Also it wasn't as big a deal as you seem to think it was in 2004, either you're memory is faulty or you just see what you want and ignore the truth.. which is it?

It is only important if they say it is. Right now it isn't. When Bill ran it wasn't. Gore worked for a newspaper in the Military. Not very dashing so it wasn't important. As it turned out for Kerry, I could turn into a nightmare if poorly handled. His was poorly handled.

Politicians talk out of all sides of their mouths and try to please everyone to be elected. They are pretty much all the same all the time and one just replaces another. BTW, I am a Vietnam Veteran.
