Well plenty of jobs & cheap housing usually don't go hand in hand... where there are plenty of jobs, housing is usually in a higher demand, thus you have higher prices. The cheapest part of Pennsvylvania is going to be the western & northern part of the state, recently ran into a couple living in Poughkeepsie and they were looking for $40-50k single family residences, which were "pretty nice" they described.

You might want to try areas surrounding Pittsburgh, there is lots of public transportation there, and it is definitely the cheaper side of Pennsylvania.

In Pittsburgh itself, the cheaper houses in a safe area are maybe in the $70,000's. If you get out in the surrounding rural areas, you might find something in the $30's - but then you'll give up the access to public transportation.

Pittsburgh isn't too bad for jobs.

Look at howardhanna.com website for a good idea of what houses are available.

Wow, that will be tough.

15 years ago, shopping in NW PA under $50,000 was tough to find something decent.

As the other poster said, good jobs and reasonable housing don't go together.

You might be able to find a MH in a park, but that is a bad investment.

Good luck to you.
