If I have found that I have been recently corresponding with someone, I may let them know. (Wink)
When I was gone over the weekend before last, I let about 4 people know I was going to be gone over the weekend. Mainly because I have a habit (hopefully a good one) of responding to emails within 24 hours, often less. If I am out of town and unable to check email, someone might get the wrong impression if I don't respond in a timely manner.

We are a community, in a sense.
I let my 360 friends know when I'll be gone for a while, so they don't think I quit 360 or have some problem with them.
I don't feel I "owe" it to anybody, it is more a measure of respect.

Not so much on Y!A, though I notice and wonder how are they, if any I especially enjoy are absent for a while.
There is, however, a family-like feeling with my 360 friends and others whose blogs feel like 'home territory.'

I don't think that YA people are family. And I do not feel the need to inform anybody of my absence. I don't think that people here know each other at all. And if they do I can't see it and I am not one of them. I think that there is to many people here to be talking of close relationships

So harshly put, but succinct. The only thing we can do is be there for those who are absent as they are for us when needed so much. It seems to be the best kind of relationship. Only giving with no expectations and knowing even when gone we are there.

If I ever got a vacation, I wouldn't say anything. I don't have any friends on here anymore. They have moved on and gotten themselves a life! :(
