What have you devoted your life to? In other words, have you settled for living a normal, comfortable life? Or are you purusing pleasure and fun? Or have you devoted your life to helping the less fortunate? Or have you not considered it and are just going with the flow?

Nothinguseful- thanks for reminding me. Interesting answers so far. You're right I suppose I should add an option about devoting your life to just surviving, I suppose I took that for granted. I have great respect for you.

Sheesh! I was born poor, grew up poor, joined the Army and remained poor. In other words, devoting my life to any thing is a big case of "N/A", does not apply. Poor people don't have much chance to do such things!
I just try to survive another day...me and my wife.

Hi,
I suppose that I have never "gone with the flow".
Although I come from a steady family background, I have at times "devoted" my life of the last 30 years to what I want other folks to use and enjoy. So after Uni,
I put in power stations in Nigeria, joined a band to amuse, Learnt, then taught water skiing in the Mid-East, helped to put in irrigation gear in Somalia,
So sometimes I wonder what exactly am I looking for in life?
Health, just enough wealth, love for & from family & freinds.
I guess that if I have the chance, my last words would be -
"Hey, I enjoyed all that"

Two words: helping others. Easy enough. I was helping Michelle earlier today by trying to figure out what one long beep means from her eMachines case. Haven't the foggiest, but I will meet someone who knows, and I will just pass along the information to her. That kind of thing. I accept used computer systems from people in the community and recycle them locally to low income families with children. It is immensely rewarding. It is just so much smarter than treating them as "e-waste." Printers, scanners, keyboards, monitors - you name it. I match up stuff until I have a working system and then go to work finding a good, new home for it, locally. Helping others. Not just computers, but in any way I can. I hope this answers your question with some understanding. From Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A.

I have devoted my life to being a help to others. Mainly in my own family. When someone needs me most often I'm right there helping out when needed. Always their to lend a hand or ear.

When I was in South Carolina in January I stumbled upon a little shop selling cheap ornaments. On one of them that was shaped like a frog it said ' do one thing every day that makes you happy'.

I an not an ornament type of person but I bought the little frog and keep him on my bedroom window sill. I look at him everyday and try to do exactly what he says.

It's funny when you mentally make a note of making sure that you do something that makes you happy then somehow you just do.

I love my little frog and will keep him forever now.

Don`t devote your life to anything.
Get on with what you`ve got.
Just try and be a good person and stay healthy.
Take it from an old grumpy, unhealthy man.

Actually, non of the above. I am monastic, and a monk is one who stops looking out... and by making that stop is able to discover that which he has been looking for all along.

It may sound a bit mysterious, but this very thing has been going on for thousands and thousands of years... and since a monk is normally rather quiet and secluded, you don't normally hear much from them.

Well, anyway, the latter chapters of this online resource may better explain the idea of "stopping," in order to find what you are looking for.

The needle in the hay-stack. I've devoted my life to the protection of human rights. Against all manner of discrimination, but mainly for displaced persons/refugees/asylum seekers/immigrants. Almost every day I see that human rights are increasingly trodden under foot, but I'm not about to abandon my cause.
It's not a popular cause and this has been made clear to me on numerous occasions, but it's my cause and I'm sticking to it.

I haven't devoted my life to anything and I find it wise not to. I say this because if you focus you time on just that one thing then other possibilities and goals become shrouded. I think you should take each day as it comes and have many things you devote your life to.
