What times 9 is 36? Its the same question (the negatives don't matter when the multiplier is a positive number).

-9 x 4 = -36.
But -9 x -4 = +36.

when multiplying with negatives and positives, remember:
even number of negatives will equal positive
odd number of negatives will equal negative.
