Crystal, do a study on the Application of Crystals in the market place and in computers. The judges will get a kick out of you using your name as a subject and its a facinating subject. You will love it.

It depends, but in my personal point of view, some thing that is affecting your local community, is a good topic for science project. Lets say garbage is a problem in town, start looking for recycling systems and waste management systems. If water is the issue, go that way. You will find some problem at your community. If you live in a big city with a big structure to support the community, then you need to look for a future problem that the city may have, or an abstract project, like space investigation. This is if you want to have a high impact impression, there is a lot of things that you may use as a project. Just be clear and objective, do not try to fix all the problems with one magical solution. If you focus on local problems, every body will sense that you care. Well that is my opinion. Hope is help full.

I always like the consumer reports ones where students are testing products. But that might not fly at your school, I don't know. I have seen kids get teeth from the dentist and test whitening toothpaste.

How about photosynthesis of plants? you could grow plants using different color celophane (i.e. purple, red, blue, green, red, orange, and then the control one which would be clear) and do some kind of graph charting the growth of the plant (i.e. use lima beans since they grow the fastest). then you can do an analysis on how color affects growth/photosynthesis.
