1) Homer was not a character in the tale
2) Homer was supposed to be the author according to old greeek tradition.
Neverthless even Ancient Greek doubted about his real existance since Alexandrinian/Hellenistic age (ie the age following Alexander the great's date). Some scholars tought that a blind man maned "Homer" never exist, other tought he was real.
In XIX cent. this debate kept going on and someone said that never existed only one author: actually Iliad would have been a collection by different authors.
Today most scholars agree that only one author did exist, but they can not be sure about what his name was or how he was (it's sure he can not be blind). It is highly probable that he was not the same author as Odissey author

Homer wrote The Iliad 50 years after the Trojan War took place. He also wrote The Odessey which took place after the war. It's a very interesting story. I read it over the summer as an English assignment and really enjoyed it.

Listen to Terry. There are several hints in the epic that lend to the theory that "Homer" was infact several people, or perhaps a clan. Especially when they make mention of how rare iron is. The Iliad takes place at the end of the Bronze Age, so iron is still pretty damn rare.
Hope that helps.

Your question looks to deduce that if archeology confirms that distinctive historic cities existed or some key battles have been fought, then each and every thing in Homer's poetry become actual. Your "do no longer you agree that..." looks to illustrate the two a penchant for sarcasm or you're companies to illogical questioning. (So are you making a fact somewhat than posing a query? Or is your purpose to satirize the countless stupid strategies that individuals on Yahoo solutions think of they are poking holes in Christian theory while they are literally demonstrating their own lack of awareness of the topics in touch?) And why are you directing the question at Christians? Are you questioning on the topic of the shown fact that if no longer for Christian clergymen copying the Greek and Latin classic texts of their monasteries over the centuries, we would right this moment have constrained awareness of the classic international?? (we would understand little on the topic of the lives of Julius Caesar and the Roman emperors and probably no longer a brilliant form of Euclid's geometry.) specific, the international can thank the Christians of the middle an prolonged time no longer basically for protecting a brilliant treasury of the international's awareness, they helped set the diploma for the upward push of the medical technique and the placement of technologies in turning out to be the explosive boost of economic wealth and innovation that defined the form of Western civilization.

Homer may have been a single writer, but in studies of the ancient Greek Grammar used, it appears to have been several associated scribes.
