Just regular cotton knitted gloves, plus your lotion of choice, and maybe a little Vaseline. You want your hands to be able to breathe (as well as hands can without lungs.. lol). Wearing anything else overnight, such as rubber or latex gloves, could prove to be disastrous, turning your skin white and wrinkly like they've been soaking in water for an hour, not to mention very uncomfortable to sleep in. I learned that lesson the hard way.

RE:
Which gloves should I get for wearing at night for softer hands?
I would like to achieve softer more beautifully elegant hands, but don't know which gloves would be suitable to help me in this area. I've heard that wearing gloves with a nice favorite lotion at night while sleeping would help make hands softer.

They actually sell moisturizing gloves which are specifically made for wearing at night. You can find them at most drug-stores. But it's not as much sleeping as much as they get dry during the day in the sun. I wear gloves all the time, so I never worry about this, but try wearing some gloves during the day to get even better results. Cotton or satin is the best still allowing your skin to breathe while protecting the hands.

well if it's the cold weather, try to keep your hands in your pockets more/wear gloves. and constantly put on lotion, and dry your hands if they get wet. it also might be something in your system, however. when i was maybe 10 my hands would get so dry i'd have to lick them all over (sounds weird, i know) even though i knew that it would make them worse. they were ugly and always bloody. i realized it was my health. drink loads of water, and find ways to keep you liver and kidney healthier. i don't exactly know what i did, but i know it went away after a few weeks. also, try soaking them in veggie oil for 10 minutes. it's very uncomfortable, and doesn't seem like it helps much, but it does help in time.

NEVER wear cotton gloves, they absorb the lotions or oils you put on your hands, making it pointless. Use satin gloves, they don't absorb as much letting your hands absorb the lotions and oils. Using rubber, plastic, vinyl or similar gloves causes your hands to get sweaty. Sweat contains salt, not good, plus the moisture from your sweat can cause nail fungus.

I know someone who had a major rough skin problem with her hands from dishes, diapers, rings, and weather. She went to a dermatologist who gave her a lotion to put on at night and told her to wear plastic (regular chloroprene or latex or vinyl) gloves at night. Soothing lotion on all night did miracles for her.

I used to know a Korean house maid who had her hands in water and chemicals every day. She slept in rubber gloves filled with a moisturing lotion and had beautiful, soft hands.
