The Record Companies and MTV have ruined real Rock and Roll. I hate to say this, but another reason why rock and roll has gone down is because we lost John Lennon. Think about, there have been some decent Rock music here and there, but it has been nothing like it was back in the 60's and 70's.

This isn't anything new, the music industry has always been changing. What was defined as rock in the 80s with Def Leapord, or the Scoprions type music sure isn't the same style of music that was defined as rock in the 50s and 60s with the likes of Elvis and the Beatles.

Rock music has changed with each decade, so has pop music, and it will only continue to do so. Fads come and go in the music business.

Record companies will put out what sells, that is what most of them aim for, it's a business. Weather or not you like the music that they put out is another thing. I get the impression that a lot of these companies look at the dollar signs first.

That being said though, if you routinely point at all of the music that you don't like, that's all you'll seem to find. It's been my experience that no matter what trends are currently popular in music, I can always find something that I like weather or not the band is at the forfront of what's currently popular, or the lessner known bands that you would never hear on a pop-music station.

There are still rock bands like Incubus that are well established and could easily sell out their own arena tour as the headliner. And Incubus's sound would stand out as unique if they had come out in the late 80s/early 90s just as well as it clearly does today.

Also going to see Audioslave headline their own arena tour amazing. While I didn't see eye to eye with some of the political views of Rage Against the Machine. Those 3 guys from Rage plus Chris Cornell put on a heck of a show. Those guys sounded every bit as good live as they did on their album, and rocked HARD!! IMO they simply brought it, the band was tight.

I also saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers live in January. Another band that puts on a great live performance. Chris Cornell and his band in Baltimore was also very good and very diverse between playing his mellower side solo material, as well as his stuff from Audioslave and Soundgarden.

I've seen 3 Doors Down live 3 times, that goes to show you that I enjoy their live show.

Basically I just think that if you sit band and focus on all of the aspects about today's music that you don't like. You might be phasing out anything that you might really like about some of the artists that you DO like.

I'm 15 and I agree. Most songs out there now are complete ****. I refuse to go to school dances because all they play is horrible rap songs, where the message is obvious and completely wrong, which is sex is great. While the music of the 70s and 80s had some sort of morals to it. Not only that but you actually had to be a talented musician to be big in the music business. Now, you just have to look good. So, my point Genesis and MCR are uncomparable and every other band he might throw your way.

I'm also a teen and love to listen 80s rock, yet still listen to today's music. I'm listening to some of Bon Jovi's older songs right this minute (♥). I agree, most of today's rock bands aren't as good as they used to be. I guess since the 90s rolled in, they just disappeared. And the great music went with it. I wish some awesome rock bands such as the ones you listed would come back. Bon Jovi and some others are still around, and make great music, but it isn't the same.

BTW, if you ever wanna see some awesome rock videos from the 80s, check out VH1 Classic's Metal Mania. It usually airs at night. They also air a bunch of great videos from the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. Check your local listings to find the channel.

what happened to rock, we got bands who are not exciting, play power chords for every boring note possible and have no fun or exciting things to show for there band. Bands from the 70's were full of energy, fun, and had things that excited fans to come out for support. Most of those bands u mentioned are great to listen to when u got crappy music on the radio, headphones, ipod, or i-phone. I've never heard of MCR and I doubt they are good as Genesis was. I'm not a big Genesis fan but I know they are better, have more fans and many amazing songs by Phil Collins and the rest of the Genesis crew. I hear u on the music scene, this is why I barely listen to modern music and listen to classic rock radio stations. Long live rock, brother.

What happened to your brain? Seriously, if all you can mention if Fall Out Boy and MCR as rock...then where the **** is your mind?

What about bands like Nine Inch Nails, Tool, KoRn, Disturbed, Velvet Revolver, Muse, Foo Fighters, Incubus, White Stripes? You really need to stop assuming these so called "emo" bands make up rock and look further. Switch off MTV...turn off your radio station, and look online...you'll see right then and there that rock is much better than you think it is.

Well I'm only 13 and all the bands you named I love and I also listen to 70 and 80's music.I must agree music back then was much better but My Chemical Romance rocks so that's where I'll agree to disagree.

(Jonas Brothers suck)

It died. Tool rarely releases any albums. Rage broke up. System of a Down converted. New bands are pop/scene/lame. Rock has hit a few difficult time. It's all beautiful everyday on the second.

Linkin Park? They have computers instead of instruments, and practically every song is the same.

There is a lot of good music out there but it isn't popular, people are obsessed with image rather than the music nowadays. They don't care, as long as they can dance to it, and it is cool.

I don't have a clue, music really does suck now a days. You really have to dig deep to find a good current band. And it seems everyone my age (im 16 as well) doesn't have any idea what a taste in music is.
