Firstly I would like to say I am a complete idiot! I am trying to unplumb a dishwasher...which resulted in me flooding my kitchen...apparently I should have turned the water of first. (see told you i was dense)

Anyway I have disconnected one hose from the sink and the back of dishwasher now (the cold water supply i think) There is another hose like thing in the back of dishwasher.......I am presuming this is a waste pipe ??? Anyway I kind of pulled it and it has become detatched from under my sink and smells gross....is this normal? My sink is at opposite ends of the kitchen and these pipes are behind my kitchen units how can i remove them with out breaking my cheapy kitchen up (its cheapy but I cant afford a new one) Should it be simple enough for me to fix this problem on my own? Or will i need a plumber which I cant afford?

Thanks in advance its getting me really down...new flat and needing to get moved in. x

i'm removing the dishwasher because I am moving into the flat on my own so don't need a dishwasher. I am replacing it with my fridge.

You have pulled out the waste pipe. The stink is from the open hole in the waste pipe. The open hole needs blocking to stop the stink escaping. A plumber will hack away the sink to gain access, so carefully do the job yourself. If the sink has been fitted then it can be removed. Just look for the fixing screws and unscrew.

The water supply hose from the dishwasher goes to the hot water piping under the sink---not the cold and the other hose is the drain which is why it smells---you can remove the old hoses if you want by getting new ones of the same kind and length (you'll have to measure the approximate distance and allow a little extra) and taping them to the old ones really well so you can pull them through the wall---make absolutely sure they are taped together very well and in line with each other 'cause if you don't and start pulling them through and they break or pull apart, you're outa luck. May want to have a plumber do it anyway. Why are you removing them? Is the landlord responsible for this?

normal smell yes dont run water in the sink -
why is the dishwasher being removed - if its to replace a new one put string on the end of the waste pipe so if you need to pull a new pipe or the same pipe back behind the cupboards u can attach the string after string is attached start moving the pipe towards the dishwasher remember the under the sink is not blocked as u have removed a pipe and that needs needs bunged. if you are putting in a new dishwasher attach the string to the pip and pull it through back to sink

You need to cap off the section of waste pipe attached to the underside of your sink with the little branch your dishwasher was attached to. Unscrew it, take it to B & Q and tell them you need a blanking cap, it will cost about a pound. It simply screws over the old hole. Dont use your sink until you do this. Dont worry about all this nonsense with the old pipes, simply leave them there. You can always say to any future buyer that it is plumbed for a dishwasher and they wont have to rip out the units to fit pipework.
