Is a person more likely to be telling the truth about something if they shared a piece of information about themself with you without you even asking them to?

in general i would say yes. people lie more to cover things up when asked a question. that said there would still be some people who just lie anyway.

Actually that sounds more like a person who is working you ,trying to set you up to blow you away , kind of like lobbing a ball in the air ,, and as your watching it drop they swing the bat and send the ball on its way ,half way around the world, but then again I'm a little sceptical , I've been lied to by some of the best ,, a good lie has a little truth in it , which gives it very hard to see threw ,,

Hard to say....what was the conversation that led up to it? Do you think they were trying to convey something to you that would be in their best interest? To read someones mind is not an easy thing and some people are very crafty......there are a lot of factors to consider before making a correct determination.

No, not really, some people are so deceptive, that's how they throw you off the track, they offer information that's fake about themselves. Either because they have low self esteem, or their pathological, I've met a few of those.

Not if they're a skilled or pathological liar. Such people are aware of how to manipulate people's thoughts -- to "con" them, in effect.

I dont think so. They may be telling you something to see if you will reciprocate and give them some info.

I would think so, unless they are lying to impress you. I guess it's up to you to know because you know the person.
