Just curious. It has grown so large. It started in a small town in Arkansas by a very nice man whose aim was to serve the best for less. Now it is a multibillion dollar organization that has destroyed a lot of Mom and Pop stores. Please share.

I'm also not in the UK, but would like to address Mr. Jello's concern about how come some people refuse to give Wal Mart the time of day, let alone what little money they have.

Watch the segment that the TV show "60 Minutes" did on how WalMart berates, harasses & wears down their suppliers to get those low prices.

Talk to someone who lost their good-paying, white collar job because WalMart didn't just close Mom & Pop stores, it also added to the job drain of blue & white collar jobs, paying $35k to $60k, going over to Asia.

Talk to vendors who refused to do business with WalMart because of the way they treated their suppliers.

Talk with female employees who have been sexually harassed, verbally abused & totally underpaid.

Enough said .

Also not from the UK. Wal Mart did recently open it's doors in a small neighboring community. The residents did everything they could to keep them out, to no avail. I have shopped at Wal Mart twice and I will never shop there again!

Cary Cyd ..... there is also an excellent program on PBS/Frontline about Wal Mart that you can watch online at their website. It's an excellent program!

My friends daughter had a job there for awhile. They are mistreated, over-worked and very, VERY underpaid. I agree with you about the mom and pop stores too. (Sorry, not in the UK, just had to tell about my observation of it).

It's sad to see Wal-Mart denigrated like this. Wal-Mart provides good jobs to many people in rural areas whom wouldn't have work unless it was for them.

Wal-Mart also provides quality goods for many people of limited means. Why are you against people making their lives better?

Sad.....

Cary - You forgot to talk to below middle class men and women who got Wal-Mart to carry their products and moved out of poverty because of them.

Sorry Mom and Pop, if you think you can make it in this world selling overpriced items, profiteering off the poor for your own gain, your days are numbered and done with.
