I would say the Moody Blues with days of future passed with the whole orchestra thing but that was mostly the work of another person. Pink Floyd is their with Meddle which came out a year before Close to the Edge. Actually I would say King Crimson their In the Court album is extremely ahead.

Definitely Jethro Tull. Their music still doesn't sound dated even after more than 30 years.
