Do we have such a terrible education system that no one knows how to spell anymore? I'm reading questions being posted on here by 15 year old kids and am completely amazed that my 1st grader can spell better than they can...Why is that? Maybe they should spend less time online "writing" blogs and more time learning how to spell.... Just had to vent...Sorry... :-)

I couldn't agree more... I wonder what's going on because last I checked, I'm pretty much the only person in my school who knows how to spell...

As long as all people (not just kids), know when it is appropriate to use this type of spelling and slang I don't mind. Its the same way I feel about proper English; as long as you can make you self seem intelligent at school or the work place (use proper English and spelling) , I don't care what you do in an informal setting like when you are with your friends or on Y!A.
But I really think you should be blaming pop culture, not the education system. Especially if first graders are spelling as well as 15 year olds.

I think it is because many teenagers have cellphones computers..and they use short words that is known by other teenagers in instant messaging, text messaging and chatting on the computer....and they r so used to it and then when it comes to school they just use the short words like you as "U" and they like forget the certain spellings of certain words......

well this is because spelling has been taken out of the education system because of this new invention called spell check on the computer, teachers do not want hand written papers, papers have to be typed.

I think its not because they dont know how to spell its just that they are trying to type so fast that they dont notice or care that they made a mistake
