Epithelial tissue is made of closely-packed cells arranged in flat sheets. Epithelia form the surface of the skin and line the various cavities and tubes of the body. The epithelia that form the inner lining of blood and lymph vessels are called endothelia. Simple squamous epithelium line capillaries and alveoil.
Capillaries are blood vessels that connect the arteries and veins. They are thin walled (one endothelial cell layer thick), which permits rapid diffusion of substances through the capillary membrane. Alveoli: The plural of alveolus. The alveoli are tiny air sacs within the lungs where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place so they, too, are lined with epithelial tissue.
