~If the prose of your essay is comparable to that of your question, you're doomed before the teacher even considers content. Why not include a paragraph on Marilyn Monroe, Judith Exner, Frank Sinatra and Sam Giancana just for a little human change of pace and a reality check on the mythology of the man?

If you go with Vietnam, be sure to look into his role in first the protection of and then the assassination of Ngo Dinh Diem.

If you opt for the Cuban Missile Crisis, be sure to look into the real roots of the affair and the US attempted assassinations of Fidel Castro, the failed invasion attempt against Cuba (The Bay of Pigs debacle) and the heroism of Nikita Khrushchev who gambled his future on finding a solution (he won but he lost - the missiles in Cuba were removed publicly and with much fanfare, on condition that the missiles in Turkey be removed later and secretly in exchange for which Khrushchev was deposed as General Secretary in 1964, in part because of his handling of the affair). You might also read his campaign speeches about the "missile gap" and then look into the real numbers of warheads and delivery systems.

Looking into the West Virginia vote in the primary may be enlightening, as might analysis of the Chicago and Illinois returns in the general election.

Or just fill the essay with meaningless junk, crap and stuff just as history has done with JFK the martyr, ignoring JFK the man.

If the essay is similar to the question, please don't cite me in the bibliography.

"...stuff about his stuff...need one more paragraph on some junk."

one more paragraph left to fill about his presidency and you've not mentioned his administration's role in the Vietnam buildup or the Cuban Missile Crisis...wow. I don't think your essay can be saved without major surgery. Good luck.

JFK (reportedly) approved the failed "bay of pigs" invasion. This was an attempt to overthrow the regime in charge of Cuba and assassinate (The still most likley living) Fidel Castro. The invasion planned to send U.S. / CIA trained Cuban revolutionaries to start uprisings thinking that people would join the rebels and bring about a democracy.

Well it failed miserably, the troops were quickly spotted, nobody joined them and many were slaughtered and forced to surrender.

Oh, and we responsible for all of it. This happened early in JFKs career and was a bad way for his presidency to begin.
