...our high school is doing it. One problem- I'm not in high school! I'd like to audition for the high school chorus but I'm only in 8th grade. They're also doing a children's chorus (where you have to be 5 ft tall and under, and they're strict about it!!!) but I'm 5 ft 1 in.! I'd really like to get into the high school chorus but I'm scared I won't get in. They also probably won't let me into the children's chorus because I'm more than 5'!!! Advice for auditioning?

OK, are they holding open auditions for the show's main cast? You may have to be a student, but if not then just go audition like everyone else. We have a local high school in our area that actually holds open auditions and you do not have to attend their school to audition. Their director wants the best actor for the job regardless, but it's best to ask before you do this. Do not mention your height. They may not even notice (or they might measure, who knows!). Just ask if you have to attend the school to audition for the main cast. If they say yes then audition in ballet shoes for the children's chorus and wow them.

On a side note, have you seen Joseph? You do know that there really is no part for you? The Narrator will likely be given to a senior at the high school and the role of Pharoah's wife will not be filled by an 8th grader. The only other female roles are the wives who usually double as a couple other roles, though in HS they may not. This is a male driven show except for those roles. At least the children will have plenty of stage time... more than the wives that's for sure. The wives will get to do some dancing, but really the kids are on stage for most if not all of the show. If they don't get quite the turn out they were hoping for, you may get in despite being 1 inch over. Write in 5' 0" as your height and say that's what you were when you last went to the doc. Their reasons for the height limit may be that Joseph is short and the kids should look like kids next to him. They can always keep you away from him :-)

Just try, they worst they can do is say no. If it comes to that and you can't get into the show as anything, volunteer to work backstage or be an assistant to the director. Perhaps they will see your enthusiasm and you will be more easily cast next year when you are in high school.

Blow them away with a great song.

Other than that - you can't really get around the rules they have already set down.
