let people email you on your profile and not let them im you? I am just wondering cuz on almost everyone's profile it shows email & not im. jw, thanks bye

because i don't want to start a conversation with anybody....if its an email then i can just delete it ..but if its an I'm they pop up on the screen and interrupt what you are doing...

One reason is the email, simply takes the message, then let's you know you have one. The IM allows people to actually find out your IM ID, and from there, if they are creative enough, email you, and harass you and what not. The email messaging is more private, also some people don't use IM.
Also, I can say from experience, that allot of people abuse IM. I have answered questions and had other Y!A members harass me, it is less annoying to get an email or two, than to get an IM. I try to not be quick to hit ignore, also my ignore acts up at times, so often I waste considerable time, just to find out the person is a troll. Mind you I do still use both, and I have a link to my 360 page.

Well it is because I dont have an im, I just dont have the time, that is why I like the idea of emails so when I get the chance I can send them one back.

The thing about IM is that you may be working and are suddenly interrupted with instant messages. With email, you can check at your leisure.
What gets me is that I may see a message I like and want to respond to the writer and click on their picture only to find they have no email or IM capabilities.......

i think cause if they email you - they dont get your addy - they still have to go through the site . but with IM anyone can just send you messages anytime - from any account ?

Each tends to have his options open..you can have friends in one catagory and block them in another - its a matter of privacy issues too. If friends and contacts have your user id they can contact you. There are lotsa possibilities to keep in contact and IM is just another one of those ways.

i personaly don't really use my im. and since i just got a new computer i would have to download it all over again.
