You've listed manufacturers but not models. A professional Yamaha is better than a beginner Jupiter but a professional Jupiter is better than a beginner Yamaha. This applies to each of the manufacturers you've listed.

I have three flutes in use right now:
1) main performing instrument - Altus 1307
2) backup for outside - Selmer Omega (pre 1990 model with large fingers)
3) specialty work - nach Meyer 5-key in grenadilla (very very old)

I have a couple backups for emergencies and to use as loaners: Gemeinhardt 3SB, Artley 15-0 (also very old)

Manufacturer is secondary to the model. Visit some shops and play some flutes. See what you like and don't like. Do you like a heavy wall, inline G, B foot, split-E, gold lip, French or plateau? All sorts of considerations. Also consider what you can afford, the better the flute, the more it will cost. Will you be buying silver or plate? Silver head only? Buying the head separately so you can get a Drellinger? Lots of considerations here.

What are you going to do with it? If it's going outside for marching band then a $7000 Altus isn't what you want. If you're just getting started, a few hundred dollars should do nicely.

Some of those people on your list don't make flutes or don't make them anymore. It's really hard to get parts for an instrument that isn't being made anymore. For example, Ludwig is a drum manufacturer and Bach is Selmer's brass line. Leblanc (and their Noblet and Vito lines) are now a part of Conn-Selmer. I don't think I've ever seen a Conn flute but I know they used to make them. You need to refine your list some - try http://www.fluteworld.com and look at the flutes they have.

I play the flute, and yeah Jupiter and Pearl are good too. You can also try Armstrong. Does she play open-hole? Open-hole flutes tend to have a prettier and smoother sound than a non-open-hole. Also, you should make sure the headpiece is really good. That's where most of the sound comes from. Hope this helps! P.S. Don't buy Yamaha. I bought one from there and it stopped working. I don't know why.
