A few days ago, I purchased a DVD from a seller on Ebay who lives about 3-4 hours away from me but I don't have a license so that's out of the question. Anyways, I purchased it and I was wondering if it would be okay since I don't understand the whole paypal account, credit card thing and the only safe way is to send a check in the mail but I vaguely remember someone telling me never to do that. This is a rare foreign video that isn't sold in any stores near me so I don't have any other choice except to trust the seller and send a check and wait a few days. Good idea? Bad idea? Thanks

He will want to wait a long time for your check to clear. Paypal is easy you can tie it to a credit card or bank account and the seller is paid right away. If you are going to buy more in eBay it is worth setting up paypal.

Actually, if you were to write a check, the seller is trusting you too....trusting that you are writing a good check. The e-bay sellers that do accept personal checks will wait for the check to clear before they send you the item you won. If you were to send a money order, they'd probably ship your item after the money order was received.

Paypal is not complicated. You have to hook it up to a checking account (they walk you through the sign up process)...they'll test the account to see if it's active and then they'll let you know you are good to go. You can pay for everything through paypal, but keep it mind that your paypal payments are funded through the bank account you choose, so whether you pay by check or paypal, you need to make sure funds are available....sellers might give bad feedback if checks bounce or paypal payments are made on time...

Send the check...wait until it clears, and ask the seller to call or e-mail you with a tracking number when you're DVD has been shipped.......

Go to the ebay site that displays the item you bought. On the right side of the screen, click on "Ask Seller a question". You'll then see a new window where you can type a question to the seller. Ask him/her if he/she will accept a personal check from you. Believe me, paypal is easier, better, and much safer. You ought to try it.

The ebay site or confirmation email should have listed the sellers accepted means of payment. If not there should be some way to contact the seller, usually by email. You need to find out their accepted means of payment because most of them won't accept personal checks. Good luck :)

darker_fae,

you need to protect yourself when using ebay!

a check is not a good option.

a money order is worse.

please get a PAYPAL account and then get a credit card!

remember:

if you are buying on ebay, ALWAYS
pay through PAYPAL and fund it with a CREDIT CARD.

then if anything goes wrong and PAYPAL can't get you a refund, you then have the option of filing for a CHARGEBACK through your CC provider.

PAY SAFE, STAY SAFE!

um....i dont think so. usually on the site you're buying it from will give you payment options. its best to use a debit/credit card with paypal. or if you dont have that, i'd get a money order or a cashier's check.
