Of the candidates available (I'm considering only those who served as president after Theodore Roosevelt), I would pick Franklin Delano Roosevelt. He led the country admirably during two major crises (the Depression and World War II). Though he certainly was not a perfect person or president, he provided much needed leadership during a very difficult era.

Of course, if being a perfect person or president were the criterion, THERE WOULD BE NO faces on Mt. Rushmore...

That's kind of a rhetorical question. Are there really any presidents later than Lincoln who have been honest and haven't used their office as president for their own good ?
Perhaps Eisenhower could be on there, or even Kennedy, but that's all folks!
The rest after that were and are all out for themselves and don't care about the public except the amount of votes they can get.
The worst is this current Bush administration. He's got us in another Vietnam!
Was Clinton okay? Nope-he was a womanizer!
So, name me one president after Lincoln who fits the image of Mt. Rushmore ! There aren't any, are there?

Although not a President, I'd put Mayor LaGuardia of New York up there.
