Apart from the obvious and usual, one of the most terrifying things I have ever witnessed, was a man jumping out from behind a tree with a chain saw( that did not have a cutting chain on it) and waving it dangerously close to the riders. You couldn't tell that the saw did not have a chain on it, and it was really scary as he revved up the motor and waved it around.

Get a horse drawn carriage, old lanterns to mark the way in the field and (lots of hay) have people jump out along the way and scare them, as they toss candy into those in the hay ride. Call the Hay Ride the old something- something trail. Play some scary music along the way. Have the horse drawn carriage take them to a place in the woods with a campfire going and tell them a few scary stories, (sort of like tales from the crypt) and then come back. If the kids are too young you don't want to scare them too bad. If at all. Just the hay ride along a not well lit path with their parents would be scary enough for them. (No one jumping out with the smaller kids)After the rides and the stories you could have a dance with music, holloween music, and black lights (if you can find the halloween dance music) and get some fog. You can make spooky sweet treats or if you want to go healthy you can get some of those 100 calorie snacks and some real fruit juice. (If you don't want to load the kids down with a lot of sugar)
Good Luck and Have Fun!

Spooky walk through the graveyard.................

Make a graveyard full of tombstones....
with these funny sayings.
Make everyone get off and read the tombstones. Give out flashlights.
Then one of the graves should have a real person lying in a predug hole just big enough for them with a blanket covering them with leaves and sticks n stuff on top of them.
When people get close they rise up from the ground and chase them back to the wagon.

Funny sayings for the tombstones....

Gosh! Those are expensive.Get a tape of screaming people, crying kids, and that type of thing, and when they get closer to where they are going, get louder. When they get there, pay a kid to get some fake blood, drown themself in it,and partially cover him with leaves, with screaming zombies and what not.
